Rear Disc brake is rubbingke

I have just purchased a new bike with front & rear disc brakes. The pad on the rear brake touches the disk . I have tried tightening/loosening bits but it doesnt make a differance. Im not intirely sure how to adjust them & its not covered in the hand book either. Please advise. Trish
